A fine shawl is the opulence and luxury of subcontinent since centuries. It was first introduced in the region of Kashmir and eventually became a popular winter item in Mughal courts and among the elites of the era. Now, this piece of clothing is easily available to masses and hence everyone owns at least one. People can be seen it wearing commonly in the areas of Pakistan, Afghanistan and Kashmir region during winter season as it is a common winter clothing item for men and women both in the region.

 

Kashmiri shawl

Kashmir is the region which is known for its shawl, in fact shawl in its finest form first time originated in Kashmir by Sayeed Ali Hamadani in 14th century.  Kashmiri shawl’s distinction is its fine weave, soft wool (pashmina or shatoosh) and intricate and colorful embroidery. Paisley is a motif which identified with Kashmiri shawl.

Pashmina shawl

Pashmina is popular throughout the world due to its softness and warmth. The name Pashmina came from the Pashm which is the name of the fleece of the local domesticated goat-antelop specie.

Shahtoosh

The only shawl that can beat Pashmina in warmth, lightness and softness is Shahtoosh. It is the fabric from fairytales which is warm enough to protect you in coldest winters and light enough to pass through a ring. This one is from chiru goat and its fibre diameter is less than that of pashmina hence more finer quality
