These days while navigating and watching YouTube videos in between a add run by PETA, that have excruciating and haunting screams. One cannot stop but click on the link given by ad to reveal what is it about.
PETA is a non profit organization for animal rights and ethical treatment of animals, based in USA. It has over 6.5 million supporters throughout the world. PETA actively participate on multiple issues focused on right treatment of animals. This particular ad is about the experiments on barn owl that are currently being conducted at John Hopkin’s lab.
PETA however on its own also remains controversial due to large euthanizing of animals under the banner of mercy killing in their shelters.
This particular ad by PETA claims that Shreesh Mysore, a neuroscientist at John Hopkin’s cut open the skulls of barn owl who are kept in captivity in experiment tubes. He then insert electrodes into their exposed brain and for hours make them look at screens. His experiment involves continuous flood of sounds and lights to these animals, whom he believes will disclose mysteries of attention deficit disorder in humans.
Is Shreesh Mysore really conducting such experiments on barn owls as claimed by PETA?
So, far Mysore has not yet denied such allegations and yes he is working with barn owls to disclose the selection process of human brains and ADHD according to the following article by HUB, https://hub.jhu.edu/2018/10/30/barn-owls-brain-study/
If this is so, then the right authorities should definitely take the right actions as it is highly unethical to torture the wild animals in order to solve the mysteries of human brain. Also, PETA should avoid such advertisements which can give panic attack to sensitive audiences and Youtube should also display some act of responsibility by warning their viewers before running such ads.
